Nutrition during Adulthood

Eventually willpower breaks down, because a person's constitution will try to rectify the imbalance caused by overuse of this Pitta quality.
we discussed the affects of Pitta imbalance manifested as an inflamed appetite, including the condition of yeast overgrowth called Can¬dida. Some Western approaches to the reduction of yeast in the digestive tract focus on reducing excess carbohydrates in an effort to "starve the yeast."11 In Ayurvedic Cooking for Westerners, Amadea Morningstar out¬lines a gradual approach to the reduction of Candida and suggests that those foods we crave and therefore consume be reduced by increments of one-fourth the current level, to let these foods gradually lose their appeal.12
We cut back on the offending food or habit by one-fourth the amount, an J when we feel comfortable with the new level, we cut back another fourth, and then again another fourth. As an example, if you eat a lot of spicy foods but are trying to reduce excess Pitta, you could try a more balancing and fla¬vorful Ayurvedic recipe every third day, then eventually every other day, and finally have spicy foods occasionally as a treat. If you suffer from Candida and have become used to eating yeasted breads but need to eliminate them from the diet, gradually introduce tortillas and flatbreads or crackers, ea: fruit instead of candy, and try muffins sweetened by fruit.
These newer food choices satisfy a healthy palate and help normalize appetite, which is fundamentally based on your mind-body type. As you cut back on the old habit, you replace that one-fourth with a new, more agree¬able habit that feeds your mind-body type and reduces imbalance. This way, your body and emotional memories don't feel deprived, and change is gradually introduced in an acceptable, tangible way: your palate begins to regain its sense of taste by experiencing new and flavorful recipes and starts desiring foods that are nurturing and agreeable to your particular constitu¬tion. If cutting back on an offending food is difficult, then allowing your emotional and physical attachments to gradually be reduced introduces a healthy change in a more "digestible" manner. The key to initiating the process of balancing is to gradually experience that changing to a more bal¬anced way of eating will not only help reduce the undesired condition
